Choose your excursions wisely

When you go on a cruise, life isn’t just about what is going on on board. Of course, onboard activities are important, you may find yourself spending a lot of time at sea so you will need to keep busy. You must also consider what to do when you dock at the port. Each place is different and to make the most of your experience of cruising you should take at least a couple excursions. But how do you choose which ones are the best?

Choose your excursion dependent on your port. If it is a port that you can get around easily and see a lot in the time you have there, then do it. St. Tropez or Venice are great places to explore alone, they are easy to navigate and the best places can be seen in a short space of time. However, if you dock at a port where a lot of the interesting stuff is further out of town then an organised excursion is ideal.

Organised excursions may be available to be booked on board ship, or if you plan in advance you may be able to book a trip directly from an operator based at the port where you are docking. Excursions can take you to natural wonders such as waterfalls or the best beaches in the region or areas of historical significance such as ruins or castles. If you want to see these sights but don’t think you can make it under your own steam or local public transport within the time limits you have in port then booking an excursion is a must!

It would be such a shame to go all that way and not get to see everything the area has to offer, of course, if you have been before and you want to spend a few hours on the ship while it is quiet then that can be fun too.
